For this event, Alexis Lombre will be joined by the flutist, singer-songwriter, and Brooklyn jazz force Melanie Charles, aka D’Flower, for an evening of listening, celebration, conversation around tracks from Alexis’ forthcoming album, and a set by DJ OOOchild.

Since before the release of her hit self-produced mixtape The Girl with the Green Shoes in 2017, Haitian-American, Bushwick-born Melanie Charles has oriented her many musical activities around a loving, riotous prying of jazz away from any vestige of institutional self-seriousness. Alongside performing, bandleading, and releasing albums, through 2016’s “Make Jazz Trill Again,” an ongoing project encompassing educational activities, performances, and a podcast, Melanie has propagated a community ethos aimed at redefining jazz as “for the streets, it's for the people and it's to dance to.”

Chris “DJ OOOchild” Marin spent his childhood in the 1990s Bronx listening to his parent’s collection, watching music videos, and identifying the samples on the tracks on Hot 97 (WQHT 97.1FM). As an aspiring DJ and “backpack” Hip-Hop head, his unapologetic interest in musicianship and production began when he was gifted an MPC 1000 at 16. DJ OOOchild has performed on prominent bandstands, at clubs in NY/NJ, and feature-DJs clubs and concerts throughout the US. He is a co-founder of the Hey Love… Collective with YunieMo, and Producer and DJ for the Make Jazz Trill Again Podcast and Trill Mega Jam Band led by Melanie Charles. His debut album, Hey Love… Presents: Volume 1 (Sonic Messengers) drops March 14, 2025.

Alexis Lombre in Residence, April 3–18, 2025

Still in her twenties, the pianist, vocalist, composer, and producer Alexis Lombre established herself as a force out of Chicago’s legendary musical universe while barely out of her teens. Living, learning and working in the vibrant musical cultures of Chicago, Detroit, New York, and now Los Angeles, Alexis’ cosmopolitan musical vision is formed in dialogue with textures of contemporary urban Black experience in these cities. Dissolving “boundaries” between Black music’s so-called “genres”—including R&B, avant-garde, gospel, soul, hip-hop and jazz—is part of the living tradition she carries. As she puts it, “Separation is an illusion. Especially within the genres of Black music.” From April 3–18, 2025, FourOneOne is proud to collaborate with Alexis Lombre on a multifaceted residency, featuring Alexis alongside her inspirations, mentors, and peers.
